Opening ceremony / Welcome reception

openingThe opening ceremony, announcing the start of a milestone event, will be held at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre on Wednesday 18 August 2010. The ceremony will start at 17:00, and will take place in the large conference room, Hall 5, located on the ground floor of the congress centre.  All registered delegates and their accompanying person  are invited to attend the ceremony. High profile national and international diginitaries will welcome all delegates and introduce the congress and its unique setting: China.

The Opening Ceremony will feature the following keynotes speakers:
- Eduardo Cazap, UICC Incoming President
- China’s Health Minister Chen Zu
- Shenzhen Mayor Xu Qin
- Congress President Hao Xi-Shan
- Ala Alwan, WHO Assistant Director General
- David Hill, UICC Chair of Scientific Committee, UICC Immediate Past-President

The ceremony will be followed by a Welcome reception, held in the exhibition hall 6, which will also give all delegates a chance to discover the international and national exhibitors of the 2010 World Cancer Congress.

Delegate lounge

Located in the exhibition area, in Hall 6, this area will be a perfect place for informal socializing, relaxation or enjoying some local cuisine. User pay coffee breaks and lunches will be available there throughout the duration of Congress.

UICC Members’ lounge

UICC Members will have the chance to access a special member-only area in the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre,  on the fifth floor, where authorized delegates will be able to escape the buzz of the congress, network and come to meet and share experiences with other UICC Members.

The American Cancer Society and LIVESTRONG Dinner Programme

This event will be held on Thursday, August 19th from 19:00 to 21:00 in the Grand Ballroom at the Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen.
LIVESTRONG and the American Cancer Society (2010 World Cancer Congress major sponsors) cordially invite you to a special dinner reception during the 2010 World Cancer Congress discussing The Cost of Cancer. The program will provide a new look at the human and economic toll of cancer globally, and will feature Dr. John Seffrin, CEO of American Cancer Society; Doug Ulman, President and CEO of LIVESTRONG; Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Director-General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, and Dr. Serigne Gueye, President of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer. This dinner will follow the invite-only World Cancer Leaders’ Summit to which both American Cancer Society and LIVESTRONG have been organisational partners.

Closing ceremony

The closing ceremony will take place on Saturday 21 August 2010 at 16:45, after the last afternoon sessions. It will be held in the Shenzhen Exhibition and Convention Centre, on level 5 in the Bougainvillea room. It will be an opportunity to review the progress made during the Congress, discover the outcome of the World Leaders and meet the team leading the 2012 World Cancer Congress in Montreal, Canada.
